Technology in Fashion: How New Tools are Shaping the Industry

read 3 min

The technology fashion industry’s footprint is one of the most harmful in the whole world. Sustainable fashion isn’t just a cool trend. The industry, world, and society are in need of change. In this way, new and innovative ideas came to help us change this reality.

technology in Fashion

According to the World Economic Forum, fashion production makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions. The industry also dries up water sources and pollutes rivers and streams. Also, clothing production has doubled since 2000. Furthermore, while people are buying more clothes, they only kept the clothes for half as long.

Technology in Fashion

Technology is a must in the digital era. From smart fabrics to 3D Printing, it has been changing the fashion industry at different levels and showing that scale the revolution in need.

Both designers, engineers, and researchers in these areas, translate behavioral trends of years ahead, into clothing, accessories, equipment, and tools capable of facilitating our daily lives and the way we behave, interact, consume and produce fashion.

An example of this is wearables, such as watches, sneakers, and T-shirts, capable of monitoring sleep, heart rate, number of steps, and alerting us to emails, messages, and other notifications from modern life.

But technology in fashion doesn’t stop there. Applications, platforms, and data tools have been helping companies to organize themselves, understand where their flaws and gaps are. This allows brands, for example, to understand everything that happens in their production process in order to improve it in a more sustainable or, at least, eco-conscious way.

How’s Technology in Fashion Contributing to Sustainability?

Technology’s improvement has been offering the fashion industry alternatives to make it more sustainable. With new resources, equipment, platforms, apps, and all kind of tools, brands are finding that being eco-friendly and conscious is affordable and possible.

Thus, these new inventions have provided entrepreneurs and the fashion industry as a whole with a series of improvements. These advancements contribute not only to the company’s mode of production and financial aspects but mainly to our planet’s health.

  1. Waste reduction: Since many clothes nowadays are disposable, linked to waste during production, the amount of products discarded daily is exorbitant. With technologies, products can be made by demand really fast or fabric use is intelligently done;
  2. Transparency: Social Media is in the number one position with this one. Glad for it, brands are able to show their whole process of productions, who is involved with the products and how are they done. On the other hand, consumers get closer to brands, can learn more about them, and, in consequence, ask for information;
  3. Data Organization: This one can be considered the hidden secret key to process improvement. Tools and platforms, such as Dedagroup Stealth, helps brands to reunite and organize their data and processes in a single place.

Organizing Data and Improving Production Process: Dedagroup Stealth

Dedagroup Stealth provides a platform responsible for hosting all data from fashion brands. Except for the designing part, its technology offers the possibility to organize information in a single place. In other words, the company is responsible for gathering data from every step of the process. They work with brands from the product’s production to its distribution and sale.

The company has been in the market for over 30 years. In the past year and a half, they’ve compromised with offering sustainable solutions, along with their platform resources and tools. Due to the platform’s data organization, brands can review their production processes. That is, companies can go through all aspects in an easy and clear way. With that, understand where the flaws are and what can be improved in order to become more sustainably responsible.

With their omnichannel strategies, Dedagroup Stealth works by listening to brands and improving their technology to suit their client’s demands by giving what they need. The company works with fashion and luxury brands worldwide, including Fendi, Save the Duck, Furla, and Church’s. It also offers specific platforms even for start-up and emerging brands.

Industry Leaders Get Together To Exchange Knowledge

On April 14th, industry leaders got together with Deadgroup Stealth’s team to discuss some issues that they face concerning supply chain, sustainability and traceability. They also explored the technology topic, debating how innovation is proving to be one of the problem solvers in the fashion industry.

Among the attendees, we had Frédéric Fekkai, founder of FEKKAI, Dana Davis, VP of Sustainability, Product and Business Strategy at Mara Hoffman, François Morillon, Co-Founder of Veja, and many others.

The lack of information on suppliers’ products, tracing data difficulties, shipping issues and other difficulties were highlighted. The leaders opened their hearts to the challenges they face daily and exchanged knowledge. These discussions offer the possibility of real connections that helps industry decision-makers to find the best solution. Also to improve their products and, therefore, build a better industry.
